Perfect Showing For No. 26 Tampa in Home Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 26 University of Tampa tennis team completed a successful home opener with a 9-0 victory over Ave Maria University on Tuesday at the Vince Naimoli Family Tennis Complex.
The Spartans started play with victories in each of the three doubles contests. The number-one team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski were joined by the two-team of Lindsay Nochowicz and Kelsey Matthews and the three-team of Chloe Pereira and Thashia Garcia. The latter won by an 8-0 score.
Garcia, the No. 50 singles player in the nation, took a three-set victory in singles as Wladimirski, Hewett, Nochowicz, Matthews and Jenelle Morgan also won in their matches.
Tampa's next match marks the start of Sunshine State Conference play as the Spartans play host to No. 16 Nova Southeastern University on Saturday at 10 a.m.
