No. 26 Florida Southern Weathers Storm to Edge No. 14 Tampa
LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 14 University of Tampa (14-4, 2-4 SSC) tennis team dropped a slim 5-4 decision to No. 26 Florida Southern College (10-5, 3-4) on Wednesday at FSC.
The match featured two delays that totaled two hours and 10 minutes. A 30-minute lightning delay was followed by a one hour and 40 minute rain delay before play resumed following doubles.
The Spartans took two of the three doubles match, with both the number two and three teams picking up victories. The number-two team of Kelsey Matthews and Lindsay Nochowicz won by an 8-4 score while the three team of Chloe Pereira and Thashia Garcia were victorious by an 8-6 mark.
In singles, Tampa won the number three and four contests as Lauren Hewett and Nochowicz picked up the victory in straight sets.
The Spartans will return home for a pair of weekend home matches, beginning with a 3 p.m., contest on Friday versus Eckerd College. UT will then play its final home and regular season match on Sunday against No. 2 Barry at the Naimoli and Young Complex.
