St. Mary’s Tops Tampa in Meeting of Ranked Opponents
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Tampa (5-6) tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback at the hands of No. 21 St. Mary's University, Texas (9-0) at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans took one of three doubles matches as the three-team of Kelsey Matthews and Katherine Pyne came away with an 8-1 victory.
In singles, Matthews and Pyne accounted for both wins, coming in the four and five matches. Both won in straight sets as Pyne's victory was 6-0, 6-0.
Tampa will be back on the court on Wednesday as it welcomes Charleston University (W.V.). The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
