Spartans Send Seniors Off With 8-1 Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 45 University of Tampa (10-8, 1-6 SSC) posted an 8-1 victory over visiting Eckerd College (6-13, 0-8 SSC) on Wednesday at the Naimoli & Young Family Complex.
The match served as senior day for two UT student-athletes, Kelsey Matthews and Jenelle Morgan. Both are among the all-time winningest players at UT, with Matthews ranking third in program history with 45 career wins. Morgan is fourth with 39.
Matthews also became the all-time winningest doubles player in program history, taking her 45th career win and passing Caitlin Scudder for the school record.
In doubles, UT won all three and were led by the top team of Kristen Mee and Matthews with an 8-3 victory. The two team of Gianna Pinasco and Emily Hewland won 8-2 as did Morgan and Cameron Moskol by an 8-1 tally.
Mee handed her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 loss in number one singles, as UT also had victories from Matthews, Hewland, Moskol and Morgan. In the number five event, Moskol prevailed in a third-set tiebreak with a 10-5 win.
Tampa will conclude the 2015 season on Saturday in Orlando versus No. 44 Florida Tech. The rescheduled match will begin at 10 a.m., with the Panthers carrying a 3-0 lead into singles action.
