Tampa Picks Up First Victory at Delray Beach Open
Freshmen Maddie Stephens and Danielle Beyes each won in singles and doubles to lift the Spartans to victory.
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Playing in a neutral site match at the Delray Beach Open, the University of Tampa tennis team defeated Broward College by a 6-3 score as an undercard for the professional tournament.
The Spartans took all three doubles matches to grab a 3-0 lead heading to singles play. UT would clinch the match with a trio of singles victories as well.
In doubles the No. 1 team of Kristen Mee and Emily Hewland edged their opponent for a 9-7 victory. The No. 2 team of freshmen Maddie Stephens and Danielle Beyes, and the No. 3 team of Cameron Moskol and Gianna Pinasco each registered an 8-2 win.
Stephens took the victory at No. 3 singles after her opponent retired following a first-set loss. Beyes also won at No. 4 as fellow freshman Lauriane Cardot was victorious in straight sets at the number-six match.
The Spartans will next play at home against NCAA Division I opponent Seton Hall University on Tuesday, March 1. The match will start at 3 p.m., at the Naimoli Family Tennis Complex.
