Spartans Begin Hawaii Trip With Victory
Maddie Stephens won in both singles and doubles for UT.
WAIPAHU, Hawaii - The University of Tampa (3-2) tennis team got off to a good start on its spring break trip to Hawaii, securing an easy 8-1 victory over the University of Hawaii at Hilo (3-2) on Monday morning.
The Spartans began the match with victories in two of the three doubles matches. The number-two team of Maddie Stephens and Danielle Beyes prevailed by an 8-6 score as the three team of Cameron Moskol and Gianna Pinasco won 8-4.
UT took all six singles matches as number-one Kristen Mee took the top match in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-4 score. Emily Hewland won a third-set tie-breaker to take the number-two event.
Stephens, Beyes, Moskol and Pinasco were each victorious in straight sets. Pinasco took her number-six match 6-0, 6-0.
Tampa returns to action on Thursday at Chaminade. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m., in Honolulu.
