Tampa Tennis Wraps Up the UT Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. - Through adverse weather conditions, and a modified schedule of play, Tampa played their hearts out to a 9-15 overall record at the UT Invitational.
Overall Team Results:
The University of Tampa: 9-15: Singles: 7-9: Doubles: 2-6
No. 18 Florida Southern College: 15-8: Singles: 11-5: Doubles: 4-3
St. Petersburg College:8-7: Singles: 5-7: Doubles: 3-3
St. Mary's University: 11-8 Singles: 7-7: Doubles: 4-1
How it Happened:
- Junior Corbin Dorsey was pushed into the number two role and performed well, going 1-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles.
- Senior Lilley Nice was moved into the number three singles role and lost both her matches against quality opponents.
- Number one player Ekaterina Grib was stellar in her Spartans debut. The Belarusian was victorious in both her singles matches and was 1-1 in doubles. Grib is the number three ranked DII player based on Universal Tennis Ratings.
- The UT round-robin Invitational Tournament displayed Tampa's bright future this season. With wins over three quality schools (one top 25 ranked), expect the Spartans to receive an increase in votes for their national standing.
