Spartans Tennis Loses Marginally to #18 Florida Southern
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa Tennis team faced the Florida Southern College Moccasins in a midweek conference match at home.

How it Happened:

Florida Southern jumped out to an early lead as FSC's three doubles pairing Mathilda Vidgren and Lola Asis defeated UT's Vanina Iordanova and Lilley Nice 6-0.

#1 and #2 doubles split competitive matches, with UT's top pairing of Ekaterina Grib and Savannah Williams winning 6-4, and Corbin Dorsey and Cheyanne Brooks losing in dramatic fashion 7-5 in front of an intensely focused group of Spartans fans.

Williams went on to dominate her opponent, Flor Salerno, in singles. She won 6-2, 6-1, tying the overall match score at 1-1.

Tampa's three, four, and five singles all played three set matches after winning the first set and losing the second.

Florida Southern clinched the match with Minnie Kim's 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over UT's Nice.

The win is FSC's first of the year. They have opened the season with a daunting schedule losing to three top-15 opponents. They take on #5 Nova Southeastern in their next match (2/22).
Up Next: Tampa faces Valdosta State on the road on Saturday, February, 29. This is the first ever match between Tampa and Valdosta. VSU is currently 2-2 with a 1-0 record in the Gulf South Conference.
