Tampa Tennis Defeats UMSL 7-0

Hilton Head, SC. - The University of Tampa Spartans tennis team wins their sixth straight match and improves to four games over .500. The Tritons had their four-match win streak snapped in defeat.

Final: The University of Tampa 7, The University of Missouri-St. Louis 0

Team Records: The University of Tampa: 8-4 (0-3 SSC),  The University of Missouri-St. Louis: 4-2 (0-0 GLVC)

How it Happened:

  • Tampa won two of three doubles matches. UMSL was able to defeat Tampa's one-doubles pairing of Ekaterina Grib and Savannah Williams 6-3 for the Triton's only match victory of the day. 

  • Tampa's three doubles pair of Lilley Nice and Cheyanne Brooks impressed as they won over Leticia Lunge and Clara Lopez Bueno 6-1.

  • Corbin Dorsey and Tatiana Harrelson won a closely contested doubles match 6-4 against Hannah Burth and Maja Lietzau to give Tampa the preliminary doubles point.

  • Dorsey would go on to win her singles match first. She defeated Lietzau in singles 6-2, 6-2.

  • Williams rebounded nicely from her single's loss yesterday as she bested Odette Beagrie in two-singles 6-3, 6-2. This was the opposite score of Williams' match yesterday vs Michigan Tech.

  • Grib clinched the match for Tampa as she defeated Marina Prediger, UMSL's all-time wins leader, 6-3, 6-1.

  • Nice was the only Spartan to lose a set in singles. She won a third set tiebreaker 10-7 versus Burth to secure the seven to zero victory for UT.

  • Tampa looks to receive a top-25 ranking in the next DII ITA poll as the Spartans are tied for fourth in wins among Sunshine State Conference teams.

Up Next: The Spartans will play next in a home match on 3/24 versus the Embry-Riddle Eagles. ERAU has an 8-1 overall record this season and this will be a pivotal SSC match. Tampa's next two originally scheduled matches have been cancelled. Tampa's terrific performance in Hilton Head will be cut one-match short as they will not face Belmont Abbey. UT's home match vs Lynn on 3/21 has also been cancelled. After the Embry-Riddle match Tampa will play Palm Beach Atlantic on 4/10.
