Spartans Finish Four Match Stretch With Loss To Keiser
Boca Raton, Fla- The University of Tampa's Women's Tennis team was on the road this afternoon for their fourth match since March 19th. The Spartans traveled to South Florida to face Keiser University in a cross division matchup. The Seahawks are one of the top teams in the NAIA, making this a good test for the Spartans before a run of Sunshine State Conference competition.
Final: Keiser University Seahawks 6, University of Tampa Spartans 1,
Location: Patch Reef Park | Boca Raton, Fla.
Records: Tampa (2-9), Keiser (13-2)
History: This was the third all-time matchup between these two programs. With the loss Tampa falls to 1-2 in the series.
How it Happened:
This afternoon's contest began with doubles play before transitioning to singles. Doubles play featured two of the best pairs in the country for the Seahawks and the Spartans were unable to keep up. Keiser went on to sweep doubles 3-0 despite a tough fight on court one from Victoria Sanchez and Nicole Cierniak. Heading into the singles with Keiser leading the match by a point, Tampa knew it was going to be an uphill battle. Keiser holds three of the NAIA's top 26 tennis players with each going on to win thor courts in two sets. Despite a few close finishes, the Spartans were unable to secure a set win, allowing Keiser to win singles play 5-1. Linn Eriksson Sundling picked up the lone match point for the Spartans in a win via retirement to avoid the shutout. Despite the match loss, Tampa battled through their four matches in six days and have many positives to take forward in the home stretch of the season.
