Tampa Tennis Falls To #4 ERAU
Daytona Beach, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Women's Tennis team was on the east coast of Florida this afternoon for a battle with nationally ranked Embry-Riddle. The Spartans are coming off a strong week of practice and wanting to continue building off positive momentum. This contest starts a stretch of 7 matches in 17 days for the Spartans as they look to finish the last month of the season strong.

History: This was the 17th all-time matchup between these two programs. With the loss Tampa falls to 5-12 in the series.
How it Happened:
The match started out with intense doubles play before transitioning to singles. In doubles, ERAU was able to jump out to an early lead on all three courts before the Nicole Casas/Sophia Gutkowski pair picked up the first set win for Tampa. Unfortunately the Eagles were able to swiftly take care of business, sweeping all three courts to pick up the first point of the day. Heading into singles down 1-0, the Spartans knew they needed to make something happen. While Embry-Riddle controlled the first two courts, Tampa held leads on the other four through the first few sets. Multiple Spartans gave valiant efforts and had a chance to pick up points by the midway point of singles play. Unfortunately for Tampa, ERAU rallied to blank the Spartans on all courts for a 6-0 sweep. In total the Spartans lost the match 7-0 without a single third set needed. Despite the loss, the Spartans were in a position to pull a top five upset and can take this match as a learning experience heading into the home stretch.
