Doubles Sweep Not Enough As Tampa Drops SSC Match To Eckerd
Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Women's Tennis team was back home this afternoon for a matchup with Eckerd College. After a tough stretch of matches the Spartans were eager to get back on the court. While today's match did not end how the Spartans would have wanted, they picked up their second doubles sweep of the year.

History: This was the 61st all-time matchup between these two programs. With the loss Tampa is still leading the series 31-30.
How it Happened:
Today's match began in the best way possible for the Spartans. They began doubles play with a 2-0 on all three doubles courts to start the match. The Tampa pairs of Nicole Cierniak/Victoria Sanchez, Nicole Casas/Sophia Gutkowski, Alexandra Chebli/Sophie Wagner all dominated their Eckerd counterparts enroute to a sweep. With scores of 6-0, 6-0, and 6-4, Tampa earned the first point of the day and took a 1-0 lead into singles play. Victoria Sanchez continued the positive momentum for the Spartans by winning the first singles competition of the match. She made quick work of her opponent (winning 6-3,6-2) to earn the second point of the afternoon and push the lead to 2-0. Unfortunately for the Spartans, the domination ended there as the Tritons began to take over the match. Eckerd went on to win the other five courts despite tough efforts from L. Eriksson Sundling and Sophie Wagner. The five singles points for the Tritons would give them the match win but the Spartans continue to build positive momentum heading into the final four matches of the regular season.
