#2 Tampa Nets Easy Victory Over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras
Tampa, Fla. - The second-ranked University of
Tampa volleyball team cruised to a three-game sweep over visiting
Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. The Spartans improve to 21-1 on the season
with the win.
The Spartans made it look easy in the first two games, winning
30-15 and 30-16. In game three, Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras held a
17-10 lead before the Spartans outscored the Gamecocks 20-8
thereafter to record a 30-25 game three victory.
Tampa was led by Katelen Dixon, who notched team-highs of 14 kills and nine digs. Alisha Green added 11 kills while Danielle MacDonald chipped in 10. Green and MacDonald were equally impressive on the offensive side with hitting percentages of .556 and .471.
Margeaux Sinibaldi set a new career high with six service aces, three of which were late in the third game. Gabriela Saade had a team-high 41 assists as Green had five total blocks followed by MacDonald with four.
The Spartans are back in action on Sunday as they entertain Armstrong Atlantic at 2:00 pm.
