MELBOURNE, Fla - The University of Tampa Spartans (11-1) opened up Sunshine State Conference play by winning its 11th consecutive match Saturday, defeating the Panthers of Florida Tech (11-2) by a mark of 3-0. The scores were 30-20, 30-16, 30-16.
Sophomore Alisha Green tied the school record for kills in a three game match with 22. She now shares this record with Erica Womack and Ania Ruiz. All-American Katelen Dixon added 10 kills for the Spartan attack.
The Spartans' defense, led by senior Margeaux Sinibaldi, was once again superb, holding the Panthers attack to a -.010 hitting percentage. Sinibaldi led the team with 13 digs and setter Gabriela Saade registered 10 digs of her own. Saade and Meghan Sherman had 27 and 15 assists respectively. Erin Clark and Dixon both led the team with three blocks apiece.
Tampa resumes its conference play Wednesday, when they travel to
Rollins. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
