
#4 Tampa Picks Up First SSC Win
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The number four ranked University of Tampa volleyball team held off #22 Saint Leo on the road 3-1. The Spartans took the first two sets before dropping the third set. They bounced back in the fourth set to seal the victory. UT moves to 10-1 on the season while Saint Leo drops to 12-2.
The Spartans opened the match strong capitalizing on the Lion errors to win the first set convincingly 25-18. The Lions settled down in the second set but UT still earned the win 25-23. Saint Leo came away with the third set 29-27, before the Spartans battled back to win the fourth 25-23.
Leading the Spartan attack was sophomore Melissa Vanderhall with 19 kills while senior Danielle MacDonald racked up 15 kills. Freshmen Eva Dupay and Eileen Bien-Aime set career highs in kills with nine and five respectively. Meghan Sherman led the team in assists with 26 and Gabriella Saade had 25.
Senior Camila Saade led the Spartan defense with 16 diggs while Annalea Warren and Vanderhall collected 10 a piece.
Each team had their share of hitting errors has the Spartans hit only .217 and Saint Leo .206.
UT improves to 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference while Saint Leo drops to 0-2.
