#6 Tampa Takes Down Albany State To Advance In The South Region
TAMPA, Fla.- The sixth ranked University of Tampa (27-4) volleyball team took down Albany State (31-4) 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament.
The Spartans opened the match with a 25-11 victory on the strength of five kills from freshman Camille Hanks. The second set saw more success for UT as they cruised to a 25-13 victory. In the third set, Tampa never trailed and sealed the win 25-16.
The Spartan attack was evenly spread out as 10 Spartans recorded at least one kill. Sophomore Kaleigh Cunningham led the team with nine kills as the Spartans enjoyed a .333 hitting percentage while holding the Golden Rams to just -.050. Sophomore Meghan Sherman led the team in assists with 15 while splitting time with Gabriela Saade who finished with 11.
Freshman Julie Howlett recorded a team high 10 digs as 11 Spartans had at least one dig. UT registered 10 total blocks with Brianne Yeates turning in three. Four other Spartans contributed with at least one solo block.
The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow as they host #16 West Florida at 7:30 P.M. Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $10 (adults) and $6 (students with ID/senior citizens). Children under the age of five shall be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
