#10 Tampa Drops Georgian Court University In Three
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 10 University of Tampa volleyball team swept all three sets over Georgian Court University in the final match of the Tampa Classic. UT moves to 3-0 on the early season while GCU drops to 0-3.
The Spartans battled in the first set as the score was tied on nine occasions but prevailed 28-26. The remaining sets went a little smoother for Tampa as they won 25-15, and 25-16 respectively.
UT used a balanced attack as nine different Spartans recorded a kill with freshman Jessica Yingling leading the way with 10. Sophomore Brianne Yeates followed with seven kills on .417 clip, and Danielle Selkridge and Camille Hanks were tied with four.
Meghan Sherman led the team in assists with 14 as she split time with freshman Molly Krull who registered 11.
Tampa played great defense as 11 different Spartans tallied at least one dig, and totaled 39 for the match. Sherman led with seven, and libero Julie Howlett followed suit with six.
The Spartans will go on the road to Denver, Colo. to participate in the Premier Classic hosted by Regis University this weekend. They will first take on Northwest Nazarene this Friday at noon.
