
Tampa Dismantles Eckerd In Return To SSC Play
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 4 University of Tampa (19-3, 8-1 SSC) volleyball team completed a season sweep of Eckerd College (6-13, 0-9 SSC), defeating the Tritons 3-0 on Tuesday night at the Bob Martinez Sports Center.
The match marked the beginning of the second time through Sunshine State Conference for UT. The Spartans won by scores of 25-14, 25-11, 27-25.
Tampa won the first two sets in quick fashion behind senior Kaleigh Cunningham. The outside hitter finished with a team-high 10 kills while committing zero hitting errors. She also finished with seven digs and a block.
Melissa Vanderhall added nine kills and seven digs as Julie Howlett led all Spartans with 16 digs. Sam Macks also made a difference offensively, connecting on eight of 10 attempts with no errors. Camille Hanks added a team-high eight blocks for UT, who played a total of 13 players.
Tampa now has an eight-day hiatus before hosting Rollins College on Wed., Oct. 27. The Tars are the lone team to defeat UT in SSC play, notching a 3-0 victory over the Spartans on Sept. 25 in Winter Park. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
