No. 4 Tampa Tops Rollins To Win 10th Straight
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (20-3, 9-1 SSC) volleyball team thwarted a late Rollins College (16-8, 5-5 SSC) comeback bid to defeat the Tars by a 3-1 score on Wednesday night at the Bob Martinez Sports Center. The Spartans won by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19.
With the 20th victory of the season, UT has now won 20-plus matches in each of head coach Chris Catanach's 27 years. The Spartan program has also reached 20 victories in each of its 32 years in program history.
The Spartans finished the first set on a 10-5 rally to claim the victory. UT would pull ahead in the second set as well, holding on to a 20-15 advantage to go ahead 2-0 in the match. Following a set three loss, the Spartans clicked in the fourth set as it seven straight points to break a 4-4 tie and set the pace for the remainder of the frame.
Danielle Selkridge led the Tampa attack with a team-high 13 kills, hitting at a .522 clip. She also led UT with four blocks. Melissa Vanderhall also turned in 12 kills and 13 digs.
Meghan Sherman joined Vanderhall with a double-double, recording team highs of 48 assists and 14 digs for Tampa. Overall, UT outhit the Tars .244 to .157 on the match.
Tampa is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Lakeland to face Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern College at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
