
Spartan Duo Grounds Flyers in Three Sets
TAMPA, Fla. - With the Tampa Classic in full swing, the No. 4 University of Tampa volleyball team won its second match of the tournament against the No. 15 ranked Lewis University in 3 sets. The win puts the Spartans 2-0 to start the season while the Flyers pick up their first loss with a 2-1 record.
Offensive duo Danielle Selkridge and Holly Reschke shellacked Lewis with 14 and 11 kills respectively. Freshman setter Kahley Patrick placed 37 assists while posting five kills. Senior Julie Howlett dug out 12 Flyer attacks followed closely by Eva Dupay with 11 digs. The Spartans combined for a sizzling .456 attack percentage while limiting the Flyers to a .181 clip.
Tampa won the first set 25-16 as 6'2 Selkridge paced the Spartan attack with seven kills in eight swats. Sophomore Reschke posted a 4-for-5 in the frame and Flyer Colleen Mitros smacked five kills for the Lewis attack.
In the second stanza, Reschke tallied a perfect 4-for-4 as UT won by a 25-13 margin. The Spartan attack won the final set with a 25-14 tally to seal their second win of the tournament.
Tampa closes out the tournament in twin-bill form as the team plays Clarion University at 2:30 p.m. and commences with a 7 p.m. nightcap against Colorado Christian University in the Saturday doubleheader.
