
Spartans Shell-Out A Loss to Eckerd Tritons
TAMPA, Fla. - Continuing their torrid pace, the No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team stifled Eckerd College in four sets to remain a perfect 13-0 on the season. The Spartans hold a 5-0 tally in Sunshine State Conference matches while the Tritons drop to 9-3 with a 2-2 conference mark.
Three on the Spartan squad had double-doubles on the match as senior Eva Dupay led with 13 kills while digging out 12 EC attacks. Sophomore Holly Reschke followed close behind, swatting 12 kills and 10 digs with setter Kahley Patrick assisted 22 attacks and 15 digs on the match.
Outside hitter Jessica Yingling smacked 11 kills and on defense blocked four and dug 10 to complete the double-double. Middle blocker Danielle Selkridge tallied 10 kills and four blocks while setter Sloane Baby added 21 assists with nine digs to round out the Spartan victory.
In the first set, Tampa made quick work of Eckerd, hitting a combined .448 attack percentage while limiting the Tritons to .050 on the frame. The Spartans won the set by a 25-14 margin as Reshke hit 5-for-6 to tempo the UT offense. Tampa totaled five blocks and 17 digs as Eckerd had trouble finding holes in the Spartan court.
Eckerd took the second stanza by a 25-20 score as the role reversal left the Spartans hitting a .109 clip, giving the Tritons the edge they needed to pull out the second set victory.
In set three, both teams struggled to string together a rally as
there were eight tied scores and four lead changes in the frame.
Tampa took the third with a 25-19 score.
The Spartans coasted to a fourth set victory behind a .406 attack
percentage, as Dupay led hit 4-for-7 on the stanza. Spartan duo
Selkridge and Reschke both hit 3-for-3 in kills to pace the UT
triumph.
