
Tampa Remains Perfect With Sweep At Nova Southeastern
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The No. 2 University of Tampa (16-0, 7-0 SSC) volleyball team finished out a 3-0 win over Nova Southeastern University (4-13, 1-6 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference contest. UT won by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-14.
Tampa pulled away in the first set, breaking a 16-16 tie with a 9-2 run to conclude the set. Jessica Yingling made her presence known defensively, notching six digs and two blocks in the first.
Nova held the early advantage in the second set as well, with the Spartans rallying mid-set and winning the final six points to take the 2-0 lead. Danielle Selkridge accounted for three of UT's final four points, registering a pair of kills and a block.
UT carried the momentum of its two-set lead into the third frame, winning eight of the last nine points to record its first three-set victory at Nova in its last four tries.
Selkridge and Eva Dupay led Tampa with eight kills apiece, as Selkridge helped her national-leading hitting percentage with a .700 showing. Sloane Baby had a team-high 16 assists as Kahley Patrick turned in 15.
Yingling finished with a team-leading 10 digs while Selkridge turned in three total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks.
UT hit .301 for the game, while NSU was .040 with 21 errors. Tampa also concluded the match with four service aces and seven blocks.
The Spartans will embark on a brief hiatus from SSC play as it will travel to Pensacola, Fla., for three matches at the South Region Crossover. UT will meet regional opponents Valdosta State, Christian Brothers and West Florida, beginning with a 9 a.m., match against VSU on Friday.
