Blazing Spartans Take Two in South Regional Crossover

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team tallied a pair of wins in their first two matches of the University of West Florida Regional Crossover Tournament against Valdosta State University and Christian Brothers University.

The Spartans won both contests in three sets as the Tampa squad improves to a perfect 19-0 on the season. The VSU Blazers fall to 11-9 while the CBU Buccaneers hold a 18-5 season margin.

Senior Eva Dupay tallied 25 kills on the day while middle hitters Camille Hanks and Danielle Selkridge each blocked nine attacks. Setter Kahley Patrick notched 76 assists and 25 digs and Dupay and outside hitter Holly Reschke had four service aces each.

In the Spartan's first matchup against Valdosta State, senior outside hitter Dupay led the squad with a career high 15 kills and a blistering .700 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Patrick posted a double-double, assisting 17 Spartan attacks with 14 digs.

Tampa middle hitters Hanks and Selkridge had a hand in five blocks each, limiting the Blazers attack to a -.019 mark for the three set Spartan victory. Senior Janae Nelson blocked three Blazer attacks in the third set as the team totaled 11 in their first game of the day.

The Spartans took its second match of the day against Christian Brothers in three sets as Dupay and Selkridge grounded ten attacks each. The 6'2 Selkridge smacked a blistering 7-for-7 in the third frame to slam the door on the Buccaneers and solidify the Spartan victory. The national leader in hitting percentage continued her tear as she put out a .692 showing in the Friday victory.

The Tampa middle blocking trio of Selkridge, Hanks and Meagan Burke limited the CBU attack to a .113 clip while posting 4, 4 and 5 blocks respectively. Swift setting Patrick posted her second double-double of the day, picking up 35 assists and 11 digs.

UT finishes the South Regional Crossover Saturday in a 1 p.m. match against host University of West Florida. The last time the two teams met was at the South Region Tournament final where UT sealed a spot at the 2010 Elite Eight. Live stats will be made available through www.tampaspartans.com.
