Spartans Sweep Argos to Perfect 20-0 Record
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Making quick work of the Gulf South Conference leader University of West Florida, the No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team improve to a perfect 20-0 with their win against the Argonauts. The Spartans took the match in three sets and leave the Regional Crossover with a sweep.
The Argos fall to 15-8 on the season with the loss as the Tampa middle hitter Danielle Selkridge paced the Spartan attack with 11 kills and a .550 attack percentage. The 6'2 phenom blocked six UWF attacks to limit the Argo offense to a .151 clip.
Freshman setter Kahley Patrick turned her third double-double in as many matches with 13 digs and 35 assists. Senior Eva Dupay dug out 13 on the match to round out the Spartan defense.
Selkridge held the Tampa momentum in the premier set with a scorching .875 hitting percentage, grounding 7 kills in 8 swings. UT took the match by a 25-17 margin as the Argos had no answer for the dominating Selkridge.
The second set was won by a similar 25-17 deficit as Jessica Yingling swatted four kills. Outside hitter Holly Reschke and Selkridge each hit 3-for-4 with Patrick leading the set with six digs.
Tampa won its third set in 25-19 form as the Selkridge posted three blocks combined with another six digs out of freshman Patrick to limit the Argos to a .074 clip.
The Spartans return home and put their 20-0 record up against Flagler College in a Tuesday night matchup. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start with live stats and a live video webcast provided through www.tampaspartans.com.
