
No. 2 Tampa Blocks Lynn’s Chances
TAMPA, Fla.- The No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team defeated Lynn University in a four set victory Saturday afternoon. The now 23-0 Spartans add a win to their perfect record with a 10-0 mark in Sunshine State Conference play. The Fighting Knights Drop to 11-12 with a 4-6 SSC tally.
Reigning SSC Players of the Week Eva Dupay and Danielle
Selkridge amassed 11 kills each with freshman Meagan Burke swatting
eight. Burke and Selkridge each totaled six blocks on the contest
while Dupay walled four. Junior Jessica Yingling grounded seven
attacks and posted three block solos at the net.
Libero Julie Howlett notched 19 digs as Holly Reschke dug out 10.
The Tampa squad limited the Fighting Knights to a .007 attack
percentage as the Spartans blocked a staggering 18 Lynn
attacks.
Tampa won its first set by a 25-15 margin Burke paced the Spartan defense with three blocks while senior Camille Hanks and Selkridge tallied two. Tandem Dupay and Selkridge also posted three kills each on the premier set victory.
Dupay and Selkridge yet again led the charge for the Tampa squad as the twosome spun five and four kills respectively in the dominating 25-8 set two win.
In the third set, Lynn bested UT as Brittany Brown and Brianna Cox found holes in the Spartan defense, allowing for a 25-22 Fighting Knight triumph in the third set. Senior Howlett did not make it easy for Lynn as the libero dug out 10 attacks for the Spartans. Brianne Yeates swung a perfect 4-for-4 on the set to lead the waning offense in the third.
The Spartans won the fourth set in 25-14 fashion as Selkridge tallied five kills and three blocks on the win to lead Tampa to its unspoiled 23-0 campaign.
UT will put its record to the test against SSC rival Florida Southern College on a Wednesday night game. The 7 p.m. match will take place at the Mocs own Jenkin's Fieldhouse. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
