
#5 Tampa Cages Lions in Three
TAMPA, Fla. - With only four regular season matches remaining, the No. 5 University of Tampa volleyball team swept the University of North Alabama 3-0 in their Thursday night showdown. The victory puts the Spartans at a towering 26-1 while the Lions drop to 22-7.
Junior Jessica Yingling led all Spartans posting 13 kills, swinging at a .306 clip. Middle hitter Danielle Selkridge grounded nine attacks good for a .571 attack percentage. The national leader in hitting percentage also walled four UNA attacks.
A trio of Spartans recorded double digit digs in Eva Dupay, Kahley Patrick and senior libero Julie Howlett, combining for 34. Patrick set 35 Tampa attacks while notching three blocks.
The first set was paced by four Spartans recording multiple kills. Setter Kahley Patrick assisted 11 Tampa attacks while Dupay and Howlett dug out five and four Lion attacks respectively. The Tampa squad won the premier set 25-20.
Yingling was the UT momentum in the second frame as her six kills led Tampa to a 25-22 victory.
Tandem Meagan Burke and Yingling each swatted four kills while Howlett dug eight attacks. Selkridge swung a perfect 3-for-3 en route to a 25-19 win.
The Spartans finish the weekend with a pair of matches against Sunshine State Conference foes Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech. Tampa plays NSU in Senior Night on Friday slotted for a 7 p.m. start while finishing up the weekend with a FIT Saturday matinee starting at 4 p.m.
