
Senior Showcase: #5 Spartans Best Sharks on Senior Night
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Tampa volleyball team recorded a 3-1 win over Nova Southeastern University on UT Senior Night. The win puts the Spartans at a season record of 27-1 with a 13-1 tally in Sunshine State Conference matchups while the Sharks drop to 7-19 with a 3-11 SSC mark.
Junior outside hitter Jessica Yingling once again led the Spartan charge swatting 13 kills at a .333 attack percentage while middle hitter Danielle Selkridge continues to dazzle, grounding 10 for an even .500 clip. Eight members of the Tampa squad notched at least five kills as Brianne Yeates, Holly Reschke and Janae Nelson smacked seven apiece. Senior Eva Dupay rounded out the Spartan attack with nine swats for the UT charge.
Freshman setter Kahley Patrick paced the Tampa offense, placing 55 assists in the four-set Spartan triumph. The Clearwater, Fla. native also served up a pair of aces while the familiar Yingling leading with three service aces.
Four on the Spartan squad picked up double-digit digs in Yingling, Reschke, Dupay and libero Julie Howlett. The group totaled 34, giving Yingling the lone double-double of the squad. Dupay was a force at the net, walling four Shark attacks to lead the Spartans in the category.
Tampa won the premier set 25-20 as tandem Yeates and Nelson amassed four kills each on the frame. Nelson swung a pristine 4-for-4 in the victory.
The Sharks battled back against the Tampa team as NSU middle Anabely Escarpita swatted five kills in the 25-21 Spartan loss.
Set three saw a dominant Selkridge kill seven with a pair of blocks to lead Tampa to a towering 25-8 win.
Yingling pushed the Spartans to a fourth set victory with six kills as Dupay led the UT defense with three blocks, two solo en route to a 25-21 final set score.
With only two regular season matchups left, the UT squad will meet Florida Tech Saturday in their final regular season home game. The 4 p.m. match will take place at the Bob Martinez Sport Center with live stats and video webcast provided through www.tampaspartans.tv
