
Selkridge Sizzles in Regular Season Finale
WINTER PARK, Fla. - After clinching sole ownership of the Sunshine State Conference Championship, the No. 5 University of Tampa volleyball team concluded its regular season with a five-set win over Rollins College. The win puts the Spartans at a 29-1 record with a 15-1 SSC mark heading into post season play while the Tars commence with a 22-9 record and 10-4 tally in conference matchups.
Middle hitter Danielle Selkridge dazzled with a 18 kill performance, swinging at a .485 clip and remaining errorless for the final four frames. Outside hitters Eva Dupay and Holly Reschke grounded 13 attacks each. Dupay notched a double-double as the senior also dug out 14 RC attacks.
Setter Kahley Patrick also hit double digits in two categories, assisting 53 attacks and amassing 14 digs. Libero Julie Howlett led the team in digs with 21, as the squad limited the Tars to a .168 attack percentage.
In the back and forth premier set battle, the Tars edged Tampa 25-23 as Collyn Welsch led all players with five kills in the first stanza of play. Outsides Dupay and Holly Reschke recorded four kills on the Rollins victory. RC setter Kiana Parks tallied eight digs in the first set, nearing a double-double with 15 assists.
Selkridge and Dupay led the Spartan charge in the second frame, grounding five kills each. Tars' Welch added four kills with Parks adding another five digs and eight assists to produce the double-double. UT tied the match with a 25-17 showing as the two SSC foes square off.
Tampa took the third set 25-20 as Selkridge spun a 4-for-6 performance without committing an error. Patrick dug out another three as both setters post a double-double. The Spartans attacked at a .324 clip while limiting the Rollins offense to a .100 to take a 2-1 match lead.
The Tars won the fourth stanza which saw eight tie scores and five lead changes as the two squads battled to a 25-22 Rollins win. Megan Hodges led the Rollins attack with seven kills on the frame while Kelly Meredith swung 5-for-10. Selkridge smacked an errorless 5-for-7 to continue her attack.
Tampa pushed for a fifth set 15-8 victory to end the regular season.
With the win, the Spartans conclude their regular season as they wait for word on the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The team currently holds the top spot in the region.
