Danielle Selkridge and Julie Howlett Continue Longstanding Tradition of UT All-Americans
LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the 16th straight season, the University of Tampa volleyball program has produced an All-American as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2011 NCAA Division II volleyball All-Americans.
Sunshine State Conference and South Region Player of the Year Danielle Selkridge was honored as a first-team selection while senior libero Julie Howlett found a spot on the third team. Tampa also had a pair of honorable mention selections in freshman setter Kahley Patrick and senior rightside/outside hitter Eva Dupay.
Selkridge, a junior middle hitter from Tortola, Virgin Islands, is now a two-time All-American who leads the nation with a .517 hitting percentage. Also a first-team all-SSC and all-South Region performer, Selkridge also leads the Spartans in kills (360), block solos (45) block assists (67), total blocks (112) and points (438.5).
Howlett earns the distinction of being the lone libero honored as an All-American as she is now a repeat performer after being an honorable mention choice as a junior in 2010. The Venice, Fla., native leads the Spartans with 454 digs as UT has limited its opponents to a .147 hitting percentage with Howlett serving as its defensive catalyst.
Patrick, the AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year, was also the SSC Freshman of the Year after notching a team-high 1,065 assists as a true freshman. The Clearwater, Fla., resident also has a .442 setting percentage to go with 18 service aces, 255 digs and 19 total blocks.
Dupay, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., is second on the squad with 285 kills, 298 digs and 25 service aces. She also has 53 total blocks while starting 32 matches.
Tampa will meet the University of Bridgeport (Conn.) on Thursday in the NCAA Elite Eight from San Bernardino, Calif. The 32-1 Spartans are the champions of the South Region and currently ranked No. 2 in the country.
