No. 7 Tampa Cracks Florida Tech
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa volleyball team coasted past Florida Tech in their second three-set sweep to open conference play. The Spartans improve to 9-2 on the season with a 2-0 record in Sunshine State Conference play while the Panthers drop to 8-4 with a 0-2 tally in conference.
Junior Holly Reschke notched a 10 kill performance with Jessica Yingling following with nine kills. The two tallied eight and six digs respectively in the Spartan sweep.
The defense was led by libero Jen Scholz and Kahley Patrick, recording 14 and nine digs respectively. The sophomore setter Patrick also assisted 32 Tampa swings.
The UT squad took the premier set of play by a 25-14 score as Reschke contributed five kills and four digs. Panthers hitter Charlie French amassed three kills and five digs, as the Spartan defense limited FIT to a -.062 attack percentage.
Senior Danielle Selkridge swung 3-for-4 in the second set victory. Yingling and Reschke each hit 4-for-8 in the 25-18 second stanza.
The third frame was led by freshman Jessica Wagner who grounded three kills in as many swings. Tampa took the third and final set by a 25-20 margin to close out the game.
The Spartans play their home-opener Friday, Sept. 28 against SSC rival Florida Southern College, slated for a 7 p.m. start.
