Spartan Middle Hitters Sweep Weekly Conference Honors
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa's Danielle Selkridge and Meagan Burke have been named Sunshine State Conference Volleyball Players of the Week presented by VALIC.
Selkridge, a senior middle hitter from Tortola, Virgin Islands, led the No. 2 Spartans to a 4-1 weekly mark against regional opponents. Selkridge averaged 4.2 kills per set with a sizzling .689 attack percentage. She notched double-figure kills in four contests, including 20 kills and five blocks in a four-set loss to No. 22 West Florida. She tallied 13 kills and five blocks in a sweep of West Georgia and 12 kills and two blocks in a sweep versus Christian Brothers. In a three-set win over Valdosta State, she had 10 kills with no errors.
Burke, a sophomore middle blocker from Jacksonville, Fla., averaged 1.6 blocks per set in a 4-1 week for the No. 2 Spartans. Playing in four of the contests, Burke kicked off the week with 11 kills in a sweep against Palm Beach Atlantic. Her tally tied the UT single-game record for blocks in a three-set match. She also came up with seven blocks in a three-set victory over Christian Brothers. Her efforts at the net helped limit the Spartans' opponents to a .144 hitting percentage.
