Spartans Perfect FIT in 3-0 Sweep
TAMPA, Fla. - Remaining perfect in the Sunshine State Conference, the No. 6 University of Tampa volleyball team defeated Florida Tech in a Tuesday night matchup. UT won the contest 3-0 to keep their pristine SSC record at 9-0.
The Spartans improve to 20-3 on the season while the Panthers drop to 14-7 with a 4-5 mark in conference matchups.
Reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Week Meagan Burke led the charge with 10 kills at a .769 attack percentage. The AVCA/Sports Imports National Player of the Week and Burke's SSC Offensive counterpart, Danielle Selkridge, grounded nine kills at a .533 clip.
Freshman right side Marissa Lisenbee mirrored with nine kills of her own as Jackie Neff planted eight attacks.
Stoppers Frances Cardenas and Jen Scholz dug out eight and seven FIT swings respectively while Burke and Selkridge each blocked three attacks. Lisenbee and Neff contributed a pair of blocks apiece to round out the Spartan guard.
The third ranked squad in hitting percentage swung .432 as a team while limiting the Panthers to a .236 clip.
The Spartans will face another SSC foe in Rollins College, as the Tars head to Tampa for a Friday night showdown, slated for a 7 p.m. start. Live stats as well as a live video webcast for the Oct. 26th match will be available through www.tampaspartans.tv.
