Spartans Locked In at No. 2 in Latest AVCA Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Coming off a triumphant 2-0 week, the University of Tampa volleyball team remains the No. 2 program in the latest AVCA Division II poll. The Spartans hold a 20-1 overall record with a flawless 8-0 tally in Sunshine State Conference play.
The Golden Bears of Concordia, St. Paul keep their top rank while former No. 3, and previously unbeaten Central Missouri topples to No. 5 after suffering their first loss of the season. Minnesota-Duluth claims the No. 3 spot while BYU-Hawai'i follows at No. 4 nationally.
South region foe West Florida keeps its No. 21 spot and represents the only other regionally program in the top-25. Both Palm Beach Atlantic University and Florida Southern College have each received votes in this week's release.
The Spartans defeated a pair of tough conference foes in Rollins College and Florida Southern to remain perfect in conference. UT took the first road match against the Tars 3-1 and then swept its rival FSC in a straight-sets win.
The Tampa squad has won 27 straight SSC matchups dating back to Oct. 29th 2011 and under the leadership of head coach Chris Catanach, has been ranked in 238 straight AVCA polling periods. That active streak is second only to Central Missouri.
