Tampa Volleyball continues No. 2 Trend in AVCA Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. - After clinching a share of its ninth consecutive Sunshine State Conference championship, the University of Tampa volleyball team keeps its No. 2 distinction in the latest release of the AVCA Division II Coaches poll.
Head coach Chris Catanach's Spartans are 24-1 on the season with an unblemished 12-0 record in SSC matchups and have taken 31 straight conference games dating back to Oct. 29th, 2011. Tampa needs but one more conference victory to win the championship outright, their 23rd in program history.
The Golden Bears of Concordia, St. Paul (26-1) continue to be the top ranked team in the nation while the rest of the top-10 remained the same in this week's poll. Minnesota-Duluth (26-2) is No. 3, BYU-Hawai'i (23-1) No. 4 and Central Missouri (27-1) No. 5 all hang on to their previous rankings.
Regional opponent Palm Beach Atlantic jumped four spots to the No. 19 team while fellow regional foe West Florida sits No. 21.
The latest polling marks the 240th consecutive ranking held by the UT program, an active streak second only to Central Missouri.
Tampa will look to take the conference outright as they host Rollins College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The contest will be played at the Bob Martinez Athletic Center where live stats and a live video webcast will be made available through www.tampaspartans.tv.
