Spartans Stable in South Region Win
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 1 ranked University of Tampa volleyball team raced past Kentucky State University in three sets to conclude the first day of the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The Spartans improve to 30-1 on the season while the Thorobreds end their season 23-19.
Sophomore Marissa Lisenbee led the charge with an errorless eight kills good for a .615 attack percentage. Middle blocker Jessica Wagner mirrored with eight kills to her credit while Meagan Burke followed with seven kills.
Daktronics South Region Player of the Year Berkley Whaley grounded five kills as UT sported a well-rounded attack to open their regional play.
Setter Kahley Patrick tuned the offense to a .344 team attack percentage with 32 assists and a pair of service aces to go along with a strong defensive effort at nine digs. Libero Frances Cardenas led the match with 10 digs.
KSU outside hitter Emily Grieshaber led her team with eight kills despite the sweep.
The Spartans will face Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern College in the regional semifinals. Tampa was victorious in both regular-season contests against the Mocs and will look to continue its success with a 7:00 p.m. match Friday.
