Tampa Volleyball Finishes No.2 in Final Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Tampa volleyball closes out the season as the No. 2 team in the nation in the last 2013 installment of the AVCA Division II coaches poll. The Spartans concluded their season 32-2 and advanced to the NCAA D-II Quarterfinals before being eliminated by 2013 national champion Concordia, St. Paul.
Concordia reclaims its No. 1 rank in the final poll while BYU-Hawai'i finishes as the No. 3 team in the nation. Minnesota-Duluth and West Texas A&M round out the top-5 as No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.
The CU Golden Bears defeated the BYUH Seasiders in three sets to take their record-breaking seventh consecutive NCAA Division II volleyball crown. After handing Tampa a 3-1 defeat in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, Concordia won six consecutive sets to earn the 2013 title.
Regional foes West Florida and Palm Beach Atlantic appeared on the final top-25, holding the No. 22 and No. 24 spots while Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins College received votes in the final polling period of the year.
Under the leadership of head coach Chris Catanach, Tampa has earned a ranking in 242 consecutive polling periods, a feat second only to No. 6 Central Missouri.
