No. 1 Spartans Improve Win Streak to 15-Straight
Tampa Defeats No. 22 West Florida and North Alabama on Saturday

LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 1 University of
Tampa volleyball team (19-1) ended the South Region Crossover
Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record this weekend. After sweeping
play on Friday, the Spartans jumpstarted Saturday morning with a
3-1 victory (26-24, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18) over the No. 22 University
of West Florida Argonauts before defeating the University of North
Alabama Lions by a 3-0 score (25-21, 25-17, 25-16), Saturday
afternoon.
The victories improved the Spartans' record to 19-1 on the
season, while pushing their win streak to 15-straight.
In the first contest of the day, the Spartans took a 3-1 win
over No. 22 West Florida, tallying a .437 team attack percentage
and defeating their eighth top-25 opponent of the season.
Offensively, Tampa was led by junior Berkley Whaley, who
blasted 20 kills in the match for a .429 attack average. Junior
middle blocker Jessica Wagner led the Spartans in attacking with an
.857 average in the victory, tallying 12 kills. Junior Marissa
Lisenbee matched her effort kill-for-kill, notching 12 as
well.
Also earning double-digit kills in the win were senior Meagan
Burke and junior Megan Heffron, who each recorded 11. As a team,
the Spartans registered 69 kills in the victory.
In addition to the Spartans' attackers, the smooth touch of
senior setter Kahley Patrick guided Tampa to victory, as she earned
62 assists in the first match of the day.
Defensively, the No. 1 Spartans recorded a total of 9 team
blocks on the morning. Burke and Lisenbee each totaled four.
From the back row, freshman libero Molly McAlvany led the
Spartans in scoring with 16 digs, while freshman Kasey Reynolds
followed her lead with 11.
After the victory over the West Florida Argonauts, No. 1 Tampa
took on the University of North Alabama Lions to wrap up the South
Region Crossover tournament.
Against the Lions, sophomore outside hitter Allee Stelogeannis
led the offensive attack, swatting 13 kills to lead all players in
the match.
Junior All-American Berkley Whaley rallied for 11 kills in the
second contest of the day, but led all players defensively with 15
digs. Stelogeannis followed her lead with 10 digs, while junior
middle blocker Jessica Wagner led the blocking effort with two solo
blocks and three block assists.
Again, Kahley Patrick led the Spartans in assists, tallying 44
in the three-set sweep. Of Tampa's 50 kills in the win, the senior
setter touched all but six.
The Spartans will compete again on Wednesday, October 22 when
they host the visiting Rollins College Tars for a midweek
conference matchup. The contest is slated for 7 p.m. from the
Martinez Center on the campus of the University of Tampa.
