#4 Golden Bears Advance as #1 Spartans Fall 3-0

DENVER - After sweeping the opening day of the Colorado Premier Challenge, the No. 1 University of Tampa volleyball team dropped its first contest of the day against No. 4 Concordia, St. Paul by a 3-0 score on Saturday.

With the setback, the Spartans dip to 5-2 on the season and will compete in the third place match that will be broadcasted by ESPN3. The Golden Bears advance to 5-1 on the season and will compete in the championship match of the Colorado Premier Tournament.

Senior Marissa Lisenbee terminated 15 kills across the match, leading all players, adding eight digs and a pair of blocks. Freshman Logan Holanchock tallied 16 digs for the Red and Black while assisting a career-high four attacks and serving up and ace.

Middle hitter Riley Hanson led Concordia on offense, as the junior posted 12 kills at a .478 clip while adding a block. Fellow middle Heather Schiller notched nine kills as efficient passing led to a dominating effort from the Golden Bear middles.

CU libero Taylor Dordan led the match with 20 digs, providing a strong first ball to setter Kasey Williams, who spun 37 assists for the Golden Bears.

Tampa will meet the loser of the second Gold Bracket contest, as No. 13 Ferris State and No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State will battle for the remaining spot in the tournament final. Both the final and the third place match will be featured by ESPN3.
