
Spartans Silence the Roar of the Tigers
Tampa Volleyball finishes the South Region Crossover undefeated with a sweep over the West Alabama Tigers.
HOOVER, Ala. – Concluding day two of the South Region Crossover, the University of Tampa volleyball team remained undefeated with a victory over the University of West Alabama Tigers. The Spartans silenced the roar of the Tigers with set scores of 25-10, 25-19, and 25-21. Tampa has never lost to UWA with an all-time series record of 4-0.
Nicole Dominguez recorded her second double-double of the weekend leading the Spartans on both offense and defense with 12 kills and 12 digs. In addition, the sophomore outside also logged three assists and one service ace against the Tigers. Freshmen pin hitters Nylah Demps and Sorrel Houghton each stated nine kills for UT, hitting .250 and .471 respectively. Once again, Molly McAlvany suited up as libero for Tampa, logging nine digs, while freshman Kaitlyn Ajmani subbed in as a defensive specialist and ended the match with eight digs. Alexandra Misca started as one of the primary middle blockers for Tampa and hit a whopping .800 kill percentage with four kills on five attempts. Sammy Mueller ran the offense for the Spartans, picking up 32 total assists, four kills, three digs and one solo block.
The Spartans outplayed the Tigers made clear by nearly every major statistical category. UT ended the sweep with 43 total kills to UWA's 28 with a total team kill percentage of .333 to .097 respectively. Tampa also picked up 41 digs to their 32, and 38 assists to their 27.
Next week Tampa will take the road to play the Eckerd Tritons before heading home for a pair of home games against the Nova Southeastern Sharks and the Barry Buccaneers on Friday and Saturday respectively. Friday against Nova, UT will be celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month, so be sure to wear your pink.
