
Spartans Sink Buccaneers on the Road
Tampa women's volleyball defeated the Bucs in four sets.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans traveled to Miami to take on the Barry Bucs and were victorious winning in four sets.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 | After starting the game trailing the Bucs 10-5, the Spartans fought back and tied the set at 17-17. After trading leads twice more, the Bucs went on to take the first set 25-23. Freshman Sorrel Houghton led all Spartans in the first set with 6 kills, hitting a blistering .417. Nicole Dominguez led all defenders in the first set with five digs. The Bucs out-hit Tampa .214 to .095.
Set 2 | The Spartans and the Bucs went point for point for the majority of the second set trading seven lead changes and tying the game 12 times. The Spartans fought back and took set two 26-24 over the Bucs. Freshman Nylah Demps was the leading point scorer with five kills. The Spartans out-hit the Bucs in the set .128 to .067.
Set 3 | Tampa came out fired up in set three, maintaining the lead for the entire set. Despite a valiant effort by the Bucs, the Spartans took the third set by a decisive score of 25-18. Alle Misca came alive in set three tallying four kills. Senior Molly McAlvany led the defense with nine digs, putting her in double digit digs with 18.
Set 4 | The Spartans jumped out to an early lead to open up the fourth set against the Bucs. However, Barry went on a quick run that would tie the game. Following the run by the Bucs, the Spartans went on a run of their own that would eventually put a win out of sight for the Bucs. The Spartans went on to win the fourth set 25-20.
INSIDE THE STATS:
• Houghton and Demps led the team offensively with 14 kills each.
• Dominguez ended the match with a double-double for UT. She had 13 kills in addition to earning 15 digs.
• Mueller tallied 50 assists in this match adding to her season total of 869.
• The Spartans outscored Baryy 56-46 in kills
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• Tampa continued their win streak, extending it to seven games now.
• Tampa leads the all-time series against the Bucs 52-16.
