Spartans Put On Dancing Shoes
Tampa volleyball heads to Lakeland, Fla. to face West Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's volleyball team is set to make its 22nd-consecutive postseason appearance, as the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament beginning on Thursday, November 30.
The Match: University of Tampa (18-13, 13-7 SSC) vs. University of West Florida (28-6, 16-0 GSC)

Last Time Out: The University of Tampa swept the Nova Southeastern Sharks in its final Sunshine State Conference regular season matchup of the 2017 season. Three Spartans led Tampa on offense, Alexandra Misca, Sorrel Houghton, and Nicole Dominguez, each with 10 kills in the match. Misca hit an outstanding .833 for Tampa, with 10 kills on 12 attempts with no errors. Sophomore Setter Sammy Muller, also had a standout performance, earning a double-double with 37 assists and 14 digs. The Spartans were led on defense by senior libero Molly McAlvany, who ended the match with 16 digs for UT.
About the Spartans: The Spartans are led offensively by sophomore outside hitter, Nicole Dominugez. Dominguez enters postseason with 335 kills on the season, averaging 2.99 kills per set. Following Dominguez on offense are the efforts of freshmen Sorrel Houghton and Nylah Demps, who have 329 and 271 kills respectively. 2017 All-SSC Second-Team member, Taylor Fosler is the Spartans most lethal middle blocker, with 253 kills at the end of regular season competition. Additionally, she leads the team with 84 total blocks. Sammy Mueller acts as the Spartan's starting setter and has 906 assists during this year's campaign, in addition to her 199 digs.
About the Argonauts: The Argonauts ended regular season 28-6, 16-0 in the Gulf South Conference, and as GSC Champions. Offensively, West Florida is led by middle blocker Rachel Neblett who has 400 kills with an average kill percentage of .431. The Argonauts second greatest offensive threats are their outside hitters, Jordyn Poppen and Nadine Williams, with 319 and 302 kills respectively. UWF runs a 5-1 offense around senior setter Monique StCyr. StCyr averages 9.89 assists per set and has 1,147 assists on the season. Logan Kael is UT's primary libero. She has 481 digs, and 117 assists this year.
Series History: Tampa takes the all-time series history against West Florida 14-4. UT faced UWF during preseason this year, losing to the Argonauts in four sets.
Up Next: The winner of the match will advance in the tournament, facing the winner of the No. 2 seed Palm Beach Atlantic vs. the No. 7 seed, Eckerd College.
