The Tampa Spartans Sweep the Rollins Tars

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Rollins College Tars in conference play in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-23. The Spartans move to 3-0 in SSC play, while the Tars fall to 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 | Tampa took the first set 25-21. Sammy Mueller dished out 13 assists in the set, in addition to logging two digs. Offensively, Tampa rallied behind the efforts of sophomore Sorrel Houghton who hit .667 with four kills and one dig. Katie McKiel led the Spartans in kills with seven for the set.
Set 2 | In the second game, UT's offense seemed to find more of a groove. Junior Taylor Fosler had the team-high of four kills followed by sophomores Houghton and Melissa Elias who each had three. UT continued to use Mueller as the primary setter recording 12 additional assists. Tampa won set two 25-13.
Set 3 | After intermission, Tampa took the court proving they were a force not to be reckoned with. Houghton and freshman Sarah Luoma both carried the Spartans offense with four kills apiece. Additionally, sophomore Nylah Demps tallied three kills of her own. The Spartans ended the night with a total of 44 digs and 50 kills. Mueller tallied 11 more assists, totaling 36 for the night. Tampa ended the third set with a final score of 25-23.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans in kills for the night with a total of 11 and hitting a whopping .647.

• Melissa Elias led the Spartans in digs with nine.

• Sammy Mueller recorded a total of 36 assists. Additionally, she had six in digs and a service ace for the Spartans.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

Tampa leads the all-time series against the Tars 88-6.
