That Feeling When You Sweep Your SSC Rival

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 8 University of Tampa Spartans defeats conference rival, Florida Southern College Moccasins in three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 28-26. Now 10-0 in the SSC, the Spartans remain the only team undefeated in conference competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The sophomore duo of Katie McKiel and Sorrel Houghton powered the Spartans offense with 14 and 11 kills respectively. McKiel hit an outstanding .444 making just two errors on her 27 total attempts. She also tallied 12 digs, one assist, and one solo stuff block for the Spartans. Houghton hit .241 on the night, making just four errors on her 29 total attempts. The Osteen, Florida native also recorded two digs and two blocks for UT. Sophomore right-side hitter Nylah Demps made a huge impact when entering the game. The Tallahassee native hit a whopping .636 on the night, earning seven kills on 11 attempts, committing zero errors. Junior Sammy Mueller quarterbacked the Spartans offense with the help of sophomore Melissa Elias. Muller stated 23 assists, six digs, one service ace, and one kill, while Elias recorded a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs. Nicole Dominguez suited up as libero for the Spartans ending the night with a team-high of 13 digs.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel earned a double-double, leading the Spartans in kills with 14, in addition to having a total of 12 digs.

• Sammy Mueller tallied a team-high of 23 assists.  

• Sophomore, Melissa Elias earned a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs. She also tallied four kills. 


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Moccasins 73-55.
