UT Silences the Roar of the Lions

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 8 University of Tampa Spartans defeats the Saint Leo University Lions in a battle of four sets by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-14. Now 11-0 in the SSC, the Spartans are the only team undefeated in conference competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans in kills with a total of 17 for the night. She had a kill percentage of .341 only committing two errors on 44 total attempts. Following her efforts, Katie McKiel had a double-double with 15 kills with 15 digs. Another crucial component to Tampa offensive success was middle-blocker, Alexandra Misca, who tied her season-high of 10 kills hitting .667. Junior Sammy Mueller led the Spartans in assists with a total of 37 in addition to defending 14 swings. Melissa Elias also recorded a double-double for the Spartans, with 14 assists and 13 digs. Nicole Dominguez logged a team-high of 16 digs as the team's starting libero.

 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans in kills with 14 total.

• Melissa Elias, Sammy Mueller, and Katie McKiel all earned a double-double for the Spartans. Elias tallied 16 assists, 11 digs, and four kills. Junior, Mueller totaled 37 assists and 14 digs. McKiel ended with both 15 kills and digs.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Lions 84-5.
