Spartans Survive Second Shark Attack of the Season

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 4 University of Tampa Spartans swept the Nova Southeastern Sharks by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 25-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Spartans absolutely dominated the match offensively, only committing nine errors compared to Nova Southeastern's 18. The sophomore pairing of Katie McKiel and Melissa Elias led the Spartans in kills each with 10. McKiel hit .233 on 30 attempts while Elias earned an average kill percentage of .444 on 18 attempts. Taylor Fosler, Nylah Demps, and Sarah Luoma additionally all had five kills and zero errors. Fosler hit .625 on the match while Demps and Luoma hit .455.  Elias also ran a 6-2 offense alongside UT's primary setter Sammy Mueller. To end the game, Elias stated 15 assists and Mueller had a team-high of 23. Junior libero Nicole Dominguez had an outstanding 26 digs, in addition to earning 2 service aces. The Spartans also dominated defense at the net, out-blocking the Sharks 7-1.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel had 10 kills, bringing her season total to 352.

• Nicole Dominguez ended the match with 23 digs. The Apopka, Florida native now has 408 on the season, sitting 8^thin the SSC.  

• Sammy Mueller now has a total of 937assists in her junior campaign.

• Tampa's win over the Sharks advances their winning streak to 19 games in a row.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Sharks 33-1. This was the second time this season that Tampa has swept Nova Southeastern.
