Snakes Prevail Over Spartans in Final Regular Season Matchup

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 9 University of Tampa Spartans fall to conference rival, Florida Southern in their last regular season match of the 2018 season. The Moccasins defeated the Spartans by set scores of 19-25, 22-25, 25-20, and 26-28.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In their final SSC game of the regular season, the University of Tampa Spartans were defeated in four sets by their conference rival, the Florida Southern College Moccasins. Offensively for the Spartans, sophomore Sorrel Houghton led the way with 17 kills and an outstanding hitting percentage of .419. Following her efforts were fellow classmen Nylah Demps and Katie McKiel. Both Demps and McKiel earned 10 kills, Demps hit .308 while McKiel hit .080. Sammy Mueller earned a double-double, dishing out 40 assists and logging 10 digs. Defensively, the Spartans were led by McKiel who earned 11 digs and had four blocks. Libero Nicole Dominguez ended the match with nine digs and four assists. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel earned her 18^thdouble-double of the season while Sammy Mueller logged her 15^th. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Moccasins 73-56. This was the second meeting of the two teams this season. In their first meeting, the Spartans swept the Moccasins in three.
