Spartans Sweep Palm Beach Atlantic On Road
The Spartans soared past the Sailfish in a 3-0 sweep.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans earn the win over Palm Beach Atlantic on the Sailfishes' homecourt in quick three sets. The Spartans improve their record to 6-6, 2-2 SSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set began with Tampa getting two quick two points off errors from Palm Beach. Kamari Potter recorded the first kill for the Spartans as Katie McKiel registered the second for back to back kills. This had Tampa with the lead at 4-1. They held the lead for the rest of the set as PBA trailed closely behind. Potter and McKiel finished the set with a combination of 10 kills.
The Sailfish went on an early run to start off the second set going up 4-0. Sorrel Houghton put the Spartans on the board with an assist from Sammy Mueller. Tampa trailed behind the Sailfish up until mid-way through the set. A comeback was made and a kill from Sarah Luoma tied the score up at 16-16. From there, both teams battle to come out on top as there were six ties and three lead changes. Luoma had a total of six kills and Houghton had five as they helped Tampa top off the set 25-23.
Both teams came into the third set attacking each other as they were going toe for toe within points. Neither could get a hold of a good lead as they both stay within one point of each other. There were nine ties and eight lead changes until the Spartans went on a five-point scoring run allowing them to take off with the lead. Mckiel and Luoma continued their hot streak as they both registered four kills each and help the Spartans sweep PBA at 25-20.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Katie McKiel led the Spartans in kills with 11. She also recorded one solo block and two assisted.
- Two Spartans, Sarah Luoma and Katie McMiel finished in double digits in kills with 10 and 11.
- Sarah Luoma finished with a hitting percentage of .562.
- Melissa Elias lead the team in digs with 13, and she also finished with 15 assists.
- Mackenzie Dufresne had a hand in defensively, as she contributed in four blocks.
- The Spartans held the Sailfish to a .148 hitting percentage.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Tampa improves their all-time series record against Palm Beach Atlantic to 12-5.
- The win snapped a two-game losing streak.
