Tampa Volleyball Closes Regular-Season With Victory

WINTER PARK, Fla.  – The University of Tampa Spartans visited the Rollins College Tars for a Saturday afternoon, Sunshine State Conference matchup at the Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center. The Spartans swept the Tars as they won the first three sets. With the victory, Tampa finishes the regular season 23-8 and 16-4 in the SSC. Rollins record falls to 8-23 and 3-17 in the SSC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tampa was the first team on the board and maintained control for the entire set. The Spartans would earn 11 straight points making the set 20-4. Despite Rollins' attempt to battle back towards the end of the set by scoring four points in a row, the Spartans would take the set with a final score of 25-10. Tampa would lead the set with 15 kills.

Rollins was on the board first for the second set, but the Spartans quickly countered with a six-point streak. Tampa was able to hold the lead for the rest of the set. The Tars would try and come back by earning four in a row making the score 18-14. Tampa went on to take the second set 25-17.

The Spartans took an early lead in the third set 8-0. Rollins would then earn two making the score 8-2. Tampa had two scoring streaks of five or more later in the set. The Spartans would go on to win the match by taking set three 25-8. 

INSIDE THE STATS

• Sammy Mueller led the way for the Spartans as she finished with a match-high 21 assists.
• Katie McKiel led the game with 10 points.
• Nicole Dominguez led the game with 15 digs on the night.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• Tampa improves their all-time series record against Rollins to 92-6.
• UT completes the regular-season sweep over the Tars.
• The Spartans extended their win streak to three matches.
