
#7 Spartans Down Molloy With Clean Sweep
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The No. 7 ranked University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team swept the Molloy College Lions for their fourth win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Set: The Spartans recorded the first two points of the set with kills by graduate student Sorrel Houghton and sophomore Mackenzie Dufresne, both from senior Melissa Elias. Tampa's early momentum continued, as they raced out to a 10-6 lead with the 10th point coming off another kill from Dufresne—this time from freshman Emily Noe. The Spartans were the first to 15 on a finish by senior Taylor Fosler off the set by Elias. Tampa cruised to a 25-14 set win. Score: 1-0 Tampa
Second Set: The second set was back-and-forth with four lead changes in the first to 15. Freshman Kalli Cors (from Noe) gave Tampa their 15th point. The Spartans finished off the set 25-20 after three consecutive points from Molloy. Houghton had five kills in the set. Score: 2-0 Tampa
Third Set: The Spartans faced early adversity against the Lions in in the third set, at one point going down 9-4. Tampa used a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead. Freshman Hayley Dillon had three consecutive kills (two from sophomore Chelsea Simmons and one from Dufresne) during the run. The Lions managed to take the lead, 16-14, once more after a 6-3 run of their own, only to be outdone by the Spartans down the stretch. Senior Sarah Luoma gave Tampa their third set win with a kill from freshman JJ Ramirez. Final: 3-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Sorrel Houghton posted her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs.
- Melissa Elias has double-digit assist sin every match this season but one.
- Three Spartans posted double-digit assists: Emily Noe (16), Elias (12), and Chelsea Simmons (10).
