#9 Tampa Downs Saint Leo in SSC Matchup

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 9 ranked University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team earned its eighth win of the season, improving to an 8-1 mark, with its win against the Saint Leo Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Set: The Spartans and Lions traded points to begin the set. Tampa led 4-3 with kills from Kalli Cors (from Claudia Rivera), Katie McKiel (from Melissa Elias), Mackenzie Dufresne (from Elias). Tampa's momentum continued, as they went on a 9-3 run for a 13-6 lead. The Spartans were the first to 15 and cruised to a 25-15 set win. Cors and McKiel contributed six and seven kills in the set, respectively.  Score: 1-0 Tampa

Second Set: Tampa began the set with a monstrous 15-5 run and coasted to a 25-9 set win. Cors and Sorrel Houghton each had three kills in the set. Elias paced the Spartans with six assists. Score: 2-0 Tampa

Third Set: The third set was once again all Spartans, as Tampa jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the final set. Cors once again led the Spartans with five kills in the set. Elias assisted on 12 total kills. The Spartans won the final set, 25-17, and captured the match 3-0. Final: 3-0 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Elias' 23 assists mark the fifth time this season she has logged 20 or more helpers in a match.
• McKiel's 10 kills give her five matches this season with 10 or more kills. She hit .474.
• Two Spartans logged double-doubles: Elias (23 assists and 10 digs) and Emily Noe (14 assists and 11 digs).
• Sierra Rayzor played two sets but had five kills and hit .833.
• UT has won six matches in a row.
